DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present EARLY MOODS’ striking debut mini-album, Spellbound, on CD and 12” vinyl formats.

Hailing from Los Angeles, EARLY MOODS formed in 2015 as an amalgamation of various experienced acts such as Rude, (ex-)Skeletal Remains, Fortress (California) and Nightmare (USA). From the beginning, the goal was simple yet sturdy: to pay homage to such classic bands as Candlemass, Witchfinder General, Pentagram, Trouble, and the almighty Black Sabbath. However, it wasn’t until 2020 when the band’s first recording appeared, originally self-released digitally on April 20th.
Bearing the evocative title Spellbound, form surely meets content here, as EARLY MOODS entrance the listener with molten grooves and bewitching atmosphere; this is tried-and-true HEAVY DOOM that doesn’t step past 1980! Naturally, traces of the aforementioned influences are tastefully spread across the 27-minute record, but each of its five component songs convey an alluring, addicting identity that’s entirely their own. Not for nothing are EARLY MOODS monikered as such, for their aeons-old aura and doomed-out swagger bespeaks an impossibly eldritch aspect – precisely, the kind’s perfect for proto-doom and its eventual genesis into traditional doom

Alle sind heiß auf das neue Langeisen von Priests Judas, ich hingegen höre gerade lieber das neue Machwerk von Early Moods.
Auftakt sagt: klasse.

Eine doch beeindruckende Steigerung zum Vorgänger, ohne den stilistischen Pfad zu verlassen.
"Hell´s Odessy" und "Last hour" bisher meine Highlights. Aber da müssen die Ohren noch öfters lauschen. Das hat wieder TopTen-Potential bei der Jahresbestenlisten.

Die gestrige Erstlauschung lässt mich mit einer vorsichtigen Begeisterung zurück. Mal schauen wie es sich entwickelt. Was mir gestern wieder bei dem neuen Album aufgefallen ist, dass es sich bei Early Moods - obwohl auf Konserve - für mich immer so anfühlt, als ob sie live vor sich hin jammen. Weiß auch nicht warum, mir fällt auch keine andere neuere Band ein, bei der ich das so empfinde.
Am meisten hat sich bisher "Walpurgis" in die Hirnwindungen eingebrannt. Definitiv eine kleine Perle das Album, ich bin eigentlich erstaunt, dass es hier auf verhältnismäßig wenig Interesse stößt.

… jepp, geiles Album- durch und durch Old-school, so wie es sein muss!!!
@Roland_Deschain das vergleichsweise geringe Interesse liegt halt am Genre, das war nie anders bzw. stimmt gar nicht, früher noch viel schlimmer, vor +/- 25 Jahren war selbst vielen Metallern, abseits von Videospielen, Doom kein Begriff, da musste man stets den Zusatz, "klingt so ähnlich oder die Erben von Black Sabbath" beifügen.

Da das aktuelle Werk der Band hier läuft, eine vorsichtige Frage an den DV Labelchef:
ist das Vinylpaket der Early Moods bereits aus den USA bei dir eingetroffen?

Es ist noch nicht mal verschickt, da das Label echt nicht aus dem Quark kommt. Platten bezahlt, noch nicht mal eine Rückmeldung was der Versand kostet. Ist echt ein Krampf mit denen und bin dezent genervt. Ich hoffe wenigstens, dass sie es diesmal hinbekommen anständig zu packen. War bisher noch nie der Fall.
