DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present ARMAGH’s highly anticipated second album, Serpent Storm, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

Formed in 2012, ARMAGH are a heavy metal force from Satanic City Warsaw. Mixing classic heavy metal from the ’70s and ’80s with proto-black metal, ARMAGH are the creators of First Wave Only movement, which unites several Polish bands delivering old-school metal – among them, labelmates GALLOWER and SEXMAG but also Torpor, Wielki Mrok, and R.I.P. – with primal severity in their sound and message.

Truly, ARMAGH are a maniac maniac’s band, idiosyncratic mainlining such noble influences as Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Motörhead, KISS, Manilla Road, early Slayer and Megadeth, W.A.S.P, Bathory, Dissection, Running Wild, KAT, and the NWOBHM in general into something authentically rustic and effortlessly unique. They delivered their first recording, the Venomous Frost EP, in 2016 and then followed it three years later with a split and then debut album, Cold Wrath of Mother Earth. The latter was exceptionally cult, but simply set the stage for their breakout record: Serpent Storm.

Wild and weird but never belabored, ARMAGH’s second album seemingly comes from an alien place – one where Battle Cry, Another Perfect Day, Haunting the Chapel, Chinatown, Under the Sign of the Black Mark, and Born Again all simultaneously play in perfect, hellish harmony. A true record collector’s record, Serpent Storm displays its power and personality at every turn, each of these ten songs offering its own canvas of darkness and mystery, ultimately making the album an epic of archaic splendor and true rivetheaded spirit. For as “old” as the album supposedly sounds (and by OLD, we mean ANCIENT), ARMAGH’s rumbling ‘n’ roiling attack feels remarkably fresh compared to so much nowadays “heavy metal” or especially “black metal”; from the warlocked clean tones of frontman Galin Soulreaper to his almost rock ‘n’ rollish guitar tones, there’s nothing trendy – only timeless – about that attack. The 45 minutes of Serpent Storm feel too short, so addicting is its alchemy.

Das ist zwar gar nicht ähnlich, aber die Melodien und Harmonien berühren ein bisschen etwas von Sacred Blade und ein winziges bisschen Trance. Muss ich unbedingt mal als ganzes Album hören.

Ne Mischung aus frühen Angel Witch, Beowulf (US)- da erinnert mich der Sänger vor allem daran und dem Bathory Spirit… flipp grad latent aus, HAMMER!!!!!

Habe aufgrund der sehr verführerischen Beschreibung des Labels, die mehrere meiner absoluten Lieblingsbands als Referenzen nennt und der Resonanz in den folgenden Posts gestern hineingehört. (Aber nicht in das "Promomedley".) Es ist schon geil, aber bei den Superlativen, die da gleich ins Spiel gebracht werden, kann man letztendlich eigentlich nur unterwältigt werden und so fällt dann auch mein Resümee aus. Vielleicht hätte ich ohne die Vorbeeinflussung durch die freilich etwas marktschreierische Überhöhung anders auf das Album reagiert. So hing der Maßstab bei mir halt irgendwie schon verdammt hoch.

Das Album kann was, auch wenn es hier und da etwas sperrig klingt und die ganz großen Refrains ausbleiben.
Es gibt hier viel zu entdecken.
Das hat dann wiederum Potential.

Ging nicht anders…das Ding musste jetzt auch auf Vinyl ins Haus. Praktisch, dass ich ohnehin ein Geburtstagsgeschenk gebraucht hab für nen Kumpel. Ich bin immer noch restlos begeistert, das Ding nutzt sich nicht ab. Heißer Anwärter für Album des Jahres.

Das Album ist seit dieser Woche auch auf meinem Plattenteller. Hatte ich vorher schon mal öfters im Stream durchlaufen lassen, aber jetzt haut mich das Album nochmals so richtig aus den Sandaletten. Was für ein tolles Songwriting, Melodien, Rhythmuswechsel. Das ist doch Celtic Black Heavy Metal. Vergleiche zu ziehen finde ich bei solch einem eigenständigen Sound unangebracht, aber wer auf junge Bands steht die traditionellen Metal mit progressiven Ansatz spielen wie z.B. Spell etc. MUSS ARMAGH HÖREN!

(Die in einem anderen Thread gestellte Frage, ob man von den neuen NWOTHM-Bands gelangweilt ist, ging zwar gar nicht an mich, aber ich fühlte mich doch sehr angesprochen.)

So ist es, fand ich schon ganz ordentlich, aber mit dem Album haben sie sich deutlich gesteigert nach meinem Verständnis.

"Serpent Storm" wir wohl mein meistgehörtes Album in diesem Jahr werde. Diese Mischung wenn Manilla Road mit ihren Langbooten an der polnischen Ostseeküste plötzlich auf Thin Lizzy treffen um es mal ganz platt zu formulieren. Wahnsinn! Erstmal gefällt mir die Song Aufteilung zwischen den beiden Stimmen von Soulripper und Madman sehr gut. Dazu dieses geile Songwriting mit Spannungsbögen, Breaks, epische Melodien stürmische Riffs und dann wieder ein arschkuhler Rockpart. Hammer!

Die ersten beiden Veröffentlichungen sind da noch eher klassischer Black Metal der für mich von den Melodien schon etwas von alten Aeternus/Primordial/Immortal hat.
Würde ich mir auch zulegen.
