CHAPTER IV, DACTYLIS GLOMEREATA und FROM THE 13th SUN sind maßlos unterbewertete Scheiben.
Mir gefallen die jedenfalls Besser als Alles, was nach 1999 kam

Chapter IV ist ziemlich gut, der Rest ist ganz OK, aber IMO meilenweit von allen Lowe Alben und dem Messiah Rückkehr Album entfernt.

Als ich Leif zuletzt live gesehen habe mit Doomsday Kingdom, hätte ich ihn aber auch fast nicht mehr erkannt.


Und es ist "Chapter VI", nicht "Chapter IV", Kollegen!

The manifestation of pure doom metal!
CANDLEMASS have come full circle: their first singer Johan Langquist (who left the band after singing on the legendary 1986 debut Epicus Doomicus Metallicus) has returned! Now, the epic doom metal veterans announce their 12th full length album The Door to Doom! The album will be released February 22nd via Napalm Records.

The Door To Doom unsurprisingly follows the plotline mastermind, songwriter and bass player Leif Edling established in the past years: epic world class doom metal that relies on slow mammoth riffing. With Johan Langquist`s highly dramatic vocal style and the love for details, the band made this album to the next "Epicus". This masterpiece is rounded off by a beautiful guest appearance by none other than Black Sabbath`s Tony Iommi on 'Astorolus - The Great Octopus.'

Tony Iommi on his appearance:
"Candlemass are a major force in Scandinavian heavy rock and have always acknowledged the influence we had on their music. They asked if I'd contribute to a track which sounded pretty good so I thought 'why not' ".

Leif Edling states:
"We feel very honoured that Tony Iommi said yes to play the solo on ASTOROLUS. The song was sent to the management and amazingly enough, the master agreed to let his mighty SG sing on the track! For me personally this is a dream come true. Tony Iommi has always been my hero and guiding light when it comes to heavy music, so to hear that he likes the song and also would like to play on it, gave me chills down the spine! I'm still in shock! But kudos to him to be so cool to even listen to it. Hats off! Tony Iommi is and will always be God!"

Das Cover ... Iommi ... ich geh kaputt. Ich muss die Erwartungen dringend runterschrauben .. obwohl ...

Ja, Johans Rückkehr, der Verweis im Text auf das Debüt (...the next "Epicus"), das daran angelehnte Cover und dann noch Iommi... das schraubt die Erwartungen schon ziemlich hoch. Wobei ich hoffe, dass da nicht krampfhaft versucht wurde, das Album zu kopieren. Ach was, wird schon toll werden.

Ganz ehrlich, bei Candlemass kann ich mir nur sehr, sehr schwer vorstellen, dass es irgendwie nicht toll werden könnte. Ein wirklich schwaches Album hatte die Band niemals, und die werden das auch 2019 nicht versauen. Da bin ich mir sicher. Aber mit dem Line-up, dem Artwork, und ja, natürlich auch mit dem Gastauftritt, schrauben sie die Erwartungshaltung schon ganz weit bis ans Limit.

So sehr ich immer noch Mats hinterher trauere - holymoly - das nen Ich mal ne Ankündigung. Candlemass, Iommi, Coverartwork,...

Na ja, „Dactylis Glomerata“ hatte auch das Cover-Artwork (sogar noch „originaler“) und klang überhaupt nicht nach dem Debüt. Ich meine mich zu erinnern, dass Leif einen Sticker übrig hatte und den draufgeklebt hat. Also mal nicht zu viel reininterpretieren

Das letzte Album und die letzten EPs, und auch die Ausschnitte mit Johan, klangen für mich alle relativ weit weg vom Debüt (und auch den Alben danach). Da müsste erstmal wieder das „Epic“ ganz stark im Vordergrund stehen. Aber ich lasse mich natürlich gerne eines besseren belehren

Nun, ich erwarte jetzt nicht, dass das Album wie die EDM klingt. Ich weiß auch gar nicht, ob ich das haben muss. Das darf schon nach heute klingen. Aber ich erwarte einfach, dass die Konstellation einen besonderen Ehrgeiz weckt, ein tolles Album abzuliefern.

Wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe, waren sie doch schon bei den Aufnahmen, als sie Mats gekickt haben?! Dann werden sie wohl kaum nochmal neue Songs für Johan geschrieben haben.
Ich jedenfalls könnte mich prima mit dem Stil der Lowe-Alben anfreunden, die ich persönlich sogar den Achtziger-Sachen vorziehe.

Die Achtziger-Dinger finde ich schon sehr magisch. Ich hab die "Epicus" aufgelegt und ich war erst einmal schockiert, dass man so langsam und doch so hart, so finster und so heavy sein kann (von Sabbath kannte ich damals im Zweifel nur Paranoid und Heaven And Hell [die Songs]). Das heißt aber nicht, dass ich die neueren Scheiben weniger gern hätte. Wenn die stilistische Entwicklung sich halbwegs im bisher gesteckten Rahmen fortbewegt, dann ist für mich alles grün.

Klar sind die super, aber die Lowe-Sachen finde ich noch supererer weil mehr Doom und halt Lowe, dessen Stimme ich sehr mag. Die ersten beiden Solitude Aeturnus vergöttere ich.
