Times have truly changed.
This last year and a half has been challenging to say the least, and we've all had time to think over our decisions and motivations in all aspects of life. When removed from what you take for granted, it becomes clear that you realize what is truly important in life.
And this is different for everybody.
Anders Jivarp and Anders Iwers have decided to move on to other things and not be a part of the band anymore.
These are two of the most amazing, loyal and dedicated friends and musicians you could ever find and as sad as we are seeing them go, we know that if passion leads you elsewhere you should follow it.
Anders Jivarp has of course been there from the very beginning, being instrumental in creating the sound that eventually became our own. His songs are some of our most beloved and with the exception of one insane evening in Istanbul 20 years ago he has played every single show since the band's inception. We're excited to hear what will come out of Anders' future musical projects.
Anders Iwers has been with us for the last six years but since we have known each other from the very early days of the band it felt like he had always been there. He played on our two latest records, not to mention being an integral part of our live shows.
We love you guys so much and we wish you the absolute best in everything that you do.

Zu den Besetzungswechseln habe ich zwei Gedanken, die irgendwie auch miteinander verknüpft sind: 1) Ich finde, dass das dem Songwriting der Band, an dem Jivarp ja rege beteiligt war, zukünftig gut tun könnte. Ich mag das Zeug zwar immer noch, aber eine kleine "Neuausrichtung" kann aber nicht schaden. 2) Die "Last" muss nun noch mehr als schon auf "Moment" verteilt werden, was sicherlich auch in die Hose gehen kann, wenn man wichtige Stützen verliert. Nichtsdestotrotz verstehe ich den Schritt dieser beiden. Für Dark Tranquillity wird entscheidend sein, wen sie als Ersatz engagieren, aber das braucht natürlich auch Zeit.

Back to 1995, when Dark Tranquillity played their first European tour. Here is the full gig from the legendary Atak in Enschede. Great crowd response and a good bit of stage diving action. At the time, "The Gallery" was not yet released, but a couple of songs off that album can be found in the setlist. The posted video was ripped straight from the master VHS tape (a copy of which was sent to Mikael Stanne back in the day).

Mit Dark Tranquillity ist es gewissermaßen ähnlich wie Amorphis: "Wilde" Anfangsphase, bissel experimentiert mittendrin, und seit geraumer Zeit konstante Qualitätsware abgeliefert. In diesem Fall bloß ohne Sängerwechsel (Ausnahme: Debüt).
Wenn du Atoma schon kennst, hast du schon eines der besten Werke im Sack. Im Grunde kannst du dich dann einfach chronologisch rückwärts durcharbeiten.
Weitere Empfehlungen meinrseits:
1) Damage Done (konsolidierte den Stil; viele Songs, die auch heute noch im Set auftauchen)
2) Fiction (vor allem wegen des Überhits "Misery's Crown")
3) The Gallery (repräsentativ für die oben angesprochene wilde Frühphase)

Aus meiner Sicht gibt es nicht wirklich ein schlechtes Album. Wie die Vorredner schon sagten, wenn du mit den neuesten Alben angefangen hast, einfach nach hinten durcharbeiten. Hab DT jetzt länger nicht gehört, aber gerade sitzend auf dem Klo hab ich dann doch auf einmal wieder mit "Identical to None" einen verdammten OhrwurmGleich mal auflegen.
Gleich mal auflegen.

Ist auch mein Favorit vom letzten Album. Mann, was hab ich mich gefreut, als sie in Oberhausen das Ding als Eröffnung rausgehauen haben.

Meine Favoriten sind "Projector", "Damage Done", "Fiction" und "Atoma". Dark Tranquillity haben viele Facetten, die farblose Atmosphäre zieht sich aber als kleinster gemeinsamer Nenner durch. Ich würde auch die Alben ausprobieren, die häufig etwas in den Hintergrund geraten, also z.B. "Haven" und "Construct".
