I also Start this post with a „usually I don’t post stuff like this“ but the unreflected one sided ass kissing of most of the comments here bothers me. The way
Sphinx expressed their feelings here is debateable but they still somewhat have a point (even 2) !
They are presented here as unthankful kids without respect which were pissed because they did not get enough free drinks. While the „free Drinks“ thing is a topic worth on it‘s own it’s not what this post is about. What both parties are talking about is „respect“ while so far only Sphinx are the ones without respect here I think I need to talk about a situation I had with
KEEP IT TRUE Festival Organizer Oliver Weinsheimer. The year was 2008, we were booked as opening band on the thrash assault festival in Würzburg (re-named to metal assault later when they run out of thrash bands).
We arrived at the venue and I asked my way through a security guy who told me to go to the production office upstairs. I went there, knocked on the half open door and said „hello, we’re nocturnal and we just arrived here“ oliver turned on me and said „… and who cares ?“ after a short moment I just replied „I thought you might want to know when one of the bands you booked arrives“ he gave one of the other guys in the room a handsign while turning around in his office chair… I sorted out the rest with the other guy who was very clearly trying to overplay this awkward situation with unnatural friendliness. I’m pretty sure he welcomed Martin walkyier not like this
Yes, we were thankful we got the opportunity to play for a bigger audience, we got some money, no idea anymore how much free drinks and whatever but this part is as clear in my mind as it was yesterday, still 14 years later ! Why? because it was unrespectful. Unlike Sphinx I made no big deal out of it. With this stupid story I just want to say Respect is not a one way road ! And sometimes it’s not about what you get or not get by contract but simply how your communication goes down. And there is usually more sides to a story to easily jump on one side so unreflected ! So who knows for real how things went on between them for going that far, I’m not the one to judge this but I want put things in perspective with my own experience in mind. Just because someone organizes a great festival does not mean this person is always right and without mistakes.
