Today, Svart Records sets November 23rd as the international release date for New Light Choir’s highly anticipated second album, Torchlight, on CD, vinyl LP, and digital formats.
Never content to exist in an easily defined space, New Light Choir defy genres, preferring to weave diverse threads of sound into their own unique sonic tapestry. On their previous album Volume II (High Roller Records, 2015), the two-headed genre-hybrid group explored the 50-year history of dark, heavy guitar-based music and made what Invisible Oranges called “music made from missing links.”
New Light Choir’s new album, Torchlight, sees the duo step on the distortion pedal and travel deeper into the mystical, dusk-filled metallic territory hinted at on its predecessor. Torchlight is possessed with the same creative spirit and a sense of wonder as the early albums by genre forefathers Trouble and Manilla Road, yet New Light Choir are devoid of the trappings of retro worship and prefer to look into the future.
Currently working as a studio project, New Light Choir consists of guitarist/vocalist John Niffenegger and drummer Chris Dalton.

Sehr cooler Kram! Der Sänger erinnert stellenweise an Eugene Edwards (Wovenhand) und noch viel mehr an Alex Maas (The Black Angels). Verrückte Mischung die mir besser gefällt und mehr zündet als einige artverwandte Kapellen wie z.B. Vaura.
Grad gesehen: HR verscherbelt die "Volume II" für'n Appel und'n Ei und hat auch dieses Album im Angebot.

Ich muss hier nochmal einhaken. Mittlerweile habe ich - trotz so ziemlich völliger Kaufabstinenz - mir die Volume II und die Torchlight geholt und die rotieren beide permanent. Unglaublich beeindruckend, was die da an Atmosphäre aufziehen. Mir gefallen die teilweise schnelleren Sachen am Besten (die mit dem ganz alten Bathory vibe), allerdings sind in nahezu jedem Lied Widerhaken drin, die im Kopf hängen bleiben. Und die Stimme passt wie die Faust aufs Auge. Wahnsinn.

"Firebird" ist auch meine Nummer eins, zusammen mit "Psalm" und "Omens" auf der Neuen VÖ. Dann folgt "New Light In October", "Violet Skies" und "Frost and Fire" von der Vol.II. Bei "New Light In October" höre ich im Refrain (the leaves are on fire...) ein Metallica-ähnliches Riff von "The Day That Never Comes" raus (die PowerChords so ab 7:45min). So geil.
Und mir gefällt, wie Schlagzeug und Bass ab und an richtig ins grooven kommen... und der Körper das Mitwippen anfängt.
