Freut mich für dich, dass du auch im Swans Kosmos angekommen bist
Mit "White Light From The Mouth of Infinity" hast du, eins meiner liebsten Swans Alben und meiner Meinung nach auch das stärkste seiner frühen 90er Phase, gekauft.
Die "Various Failures" Compilation ist da auch empfehlenswert und bietet einen guten Überblick eben dieser Phase.

Eingestiegen bin ich damals mit "Cop/Young God". Die und "Filth" brauchst du auch, falls du dich für die Frühphase interessieren solltest. Aber: Kommt Zeit, kommt Gelegenheit.
Ich würde nichts überstürzen und mir Zeit für die jeweiligen Alben lassen. Früher oder später solltest du dir jedoch auch die älteren Sachen (zumindest) anhören. Alleine schon um ein besseres Verständnis für Giras "Sprache" und "Sound" und "Vision" zu bekommen.

Ach ja: Die "Soundtracks for the Blind" ist Pflicht!

Danke! Ich bin auch sehr froh, und man merkt wieder mal, wie wertvoll dieses Forum ist, denn ich wäre alleine wohl nie auf die Idee gekommen, mir die Swans mal zu Gemüte zu führen. Vermutlich habe ich die gedanklich mal unter "Indie" abgeheftet, aber damit tut man ihnen wahrlich unrecht.

Ich werde mir sicher andere Phasen der Band auch noch reinziehen, aber erst mal bin ich dann mit dem bestellten/gekauften Material schwer beschäftigt. Mit den älteren Sachen werde ich mich auf jeden Fall auch noch befassen.

Bei der "Soundtracks..." warte ich auf das Remaster, das laut @Lobi nächstes Frühjahr kommen soll, dann ist das auch leistbarer.

Ja, mitlerweile sind fast alle CDs da. Ich finde die 3-CD von "White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity/Love of Life" unglaublich gut. Das kann stundenlang bei mir laufen.
Die anderen Sachen muss ich nach und nach noch intensiver hören.

Ja, die "White Light..." ist auch nach wie vor mein Liebling, wobei ich die anderen Alben großteils noch nicht kenne, also ist diese Aussage eher zu vernachlässigen.
Mir gefällt auf dieser Scheibe der Gesang unsagbar gut. Manchmal höre ich eine Spur Pete Steele heraus, dann wieder Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance)...

Mir wird hier viel zu selten absolut geniale "Swans Are Dead" Scheibe erwähnt. Das beste Live Album das ich kenne. Die Songs sind in ihren Liveversionen teils so hart verändert dass man das Ding auch als reguläres Studio Album betrachten könnte:

Now that this last phase of Swans is over, I'm not quite sure it actually happened. It's already fading, like most things. I think we achieved something there though, and it was good after shows to go out and meet people and get a sense of how the music has affected them, either that night or through the years. I'm always touched when I hear the music has had a salutary effect on someone, since it's had the same effect on me - which is why I do it. So, even if the details are increasingly hazy, I feel we've left something positive behind, and perhaps contributed something worthwhile.
Now, as is natural, I'm looking towards what comes next. I'm currently writing new material for the next phase of Swans, some of which I'll perform on my upcoming solo tours. Sitting there alone on stage with a dead piece of wood and some wires and just my voice is a challenge I set for myself a number of years ago, trying to fully inhabit the same thread that's run through the music all along, with the simplest of means. I think I've gotten pretty good at it over time. I play the guitar my own way. I've never really learned how to play it conventionally and I don't care to do so. I could just as easily be hitting two rocks together. It provides a context for the voice and words, and just as in the music of Swans, when all the elements (known and unknowable) combine, it can lead to something beyond itself, which is always the place I'd like to go: somewhere else. I hope to see you there.

Leider wieder nichts in Rhein-Main! Würde ihn zu gerne mal live sehen, vor allem die Solo-Versionen von Swans-Songs wie "Failure" oder "God damn the sun" sind der Hammer. Diese "basische" Seite hat mir bei den letzten Swans-Alben und Touren ein wenig gefehlt. Das obige Statement lässt auf einiges hoffen.

Natürlich auch nichts in Österreich - nicht einmal Wien. Mich grundsätzlich darüber zu ärgern, habe ich schon aufgegeben.
Ansonsten sind das schon gute News da oben.
