Starkes Debüt, das klar mehr von Amebix als von Voivod hat, also sicher keine 50/50 Mischung, dennoch sollten Voivod-Fans gut drauf klar kommen... Vielmehr geht es als rohes, ungeschliffenes Gegenstück zu Amebix' Schwanengesang durch: weniger hymnisch, trockener, reduzierter, düster, aber fesselnd. Die leichten Neurosis-/Früh-Killing-Joke-Anleihen sind selbstverständlich, ebenso wie die düsteren, folkigen Bluesanleihen, die wohl auf das ehemals (?) geplante Soloprojekt von Miller zurückzuführen sind, die den Solosachen von Kelly/Von Till nicht unähnlich sind ("We Control The Fear"). Überhaupt sind Millers Vocals über alles erhaben. Sandwiches mit Jalapenos rocken übrigens. Starke Scheibe, die hintenraus leider etwas schwächelt. Den mit Led-Zep-Zitat versehen Song "You People" hätte man sich sparen können, ja, vielleicht doch eher erst eine MLP mit den stärksten Stücken raushauen sollen. Dennoch hörenswert, nicht nur für Fans der genannten Bands.

Hab mir Democracy rad mal angehört und gebe recht auch wenn das keine Überraschung ist, da Amebix ja häufig (70er) Killing Joke als Haupteinfluss nennt. Ich habe Tau Cross auf jeden Fall sofort bestellt und hoffe insgeheim auch noch auf eine Tour. Stig machte Mal so Andeutungen.
 
Stig hat doch mit dem Projekt nix zu tun, oder?

Relapse Records is extremely proud to announce the signing of international punk/metal supergroup TAU CROSS. Comprised of a pedigree of musicians including Amebix vocalist/bassist Rob "The Baron" Miller, Voivod drummer Michel "Away" Langevin, Misery guitarist Jon Misery and War//Plague guitarist Andy Lefton,TAU CROSS formed in 2013 and recorded their debut album over several months in 2014 throughout three different countries. The record is slated for a late Spring release via Relapse.

Rob Miller commented on the project saying


"The music that evolved over this time is difficult to categorize, as there is clearly a lot of Amebix in the songwriting as well as some elements of gothic, Joy Division, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Industrial and hard fucking old-school punk rock. This is an entirely original work that is the organic fusion of four unique people.


We decided to let the songs form themselves around the original demos and allow people to bring themselves into the mix, to allow the bark to grow around the tree. We are all very proud of what we have achieved in this short time and looking forward to working together again as soon as time allows."

Miller also talked about the band playing live and signing to Relapse:


"TauCross will be playing live over the coming year, we hope to Tour in the U.S and Europe, it is still early days but i feel this is going to be an intense live experience.We were introduced to Relapse through a mutual friend, Brad Boatright at Audioseige Mastering, and were delighted that they stepped up and took this under their wing straight away, we look forward to working with them in the future."

Ja, klar. Dem sei auch nicht widersprochen. Hört man auch auf manchen Songs von Tau Cross und an den Vocals vom Miller deutlich raus. Trotzdem haben sich zwei überflüssige, weil irgendwie zu simple gestrickte und schwache Songs eingeschlichen... (You People & Hangmans Hyll).
 
Habe mir das Album bei meiner letzten Relapse-Bestellung einfach mal mit bestellt. Hörte sich von der Beschreibung her interessant an.
Bin mal gespannt, wie das ganze dann letztlich klingt. Ich werde aber auf jeden Fall auf das Vinyl warten und nicht im Netz vorlauschen. Ich liebe es, eine neue Platte unvoreingenommen aufzulegen :)
 
Die Scheibe fesselt mich immer mehr, sogar Hangmans Hyll geht mittlerweile klar.
