DVP 248 Firmament – We Don’t Rise, We Just Fall LP/CD/MC

DVP 248 Firmament – We Don’t Rise, We Just Fall LP/CD/MC

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the highly anticipated debut album of Germany’s FIRMAMENT, We Don’t Rise, We Just Fall, on CD, music cassette and vinyl LP formats.

Hailing from Leipzig, Germany’s FIRMAMENT are a new heavy rock quintet begun in early 2021 by ex-members of TENSION, Prisma, and Wayward. Despite three of the members having done time in TENSION – who released their critically acclaimed debut album, Tension, via DYING VICTIMS last year – the goal for FIRMAMENT from the start was to write moving and thus catchy hard rock songs that get stuck in your head immediately as well as stylistically/spiritually returning to an era before traditional heavy metal even existed. So, while it’s tempting to superficially think FIRMAMENT are an extension of where TENSION left off, the truth is that FIRMAMENT are indeed their own “firmament.”

FIRMAMENT’s first recording together was a two-song single, “The Void / Losing You,” which they recorded live in their rehearsal room. The single was first released digitally during the autumn of 2021, and then was released as a super-limited homemade tape sold exclusively at gigs. With such heartfelt and truly homemade passion, during March 2022 did FIRMAMENT enter the studio to record their debut album. Poignantly titled We Don’t Rise, We Just Fall, FIRMAMENT’s first full-length sees the five-piece steering the same ship – the unapologetically old-school vibes of the ‘70s and ‘80s and transferring them to the current time, without being stuck in specific genre boxes – but doing so more masterfully than before. Like those throwback eras (and particularly during the ‘70s), equal emphasis is placed on performance and songwriting, each one informing the other, resulting in an album-long experience where each of these nine songs retains its own identity and personality but come together to create a unified-yet-unique headspace. Just witness the deftly dynamic and era-authentic never-overdriven guitar work, where Tom Michalik and Philipp Meyer weave heartrending twin-guitar melodies; underneath that but actually taking center stage is the propulsive-yet-melodic bass work of Stefan Deutsch, which hooks just as effortlessly as those of his six-string partners. Of course, classic hard rock and proto-metal often lives or dies on the strength of its vocals, and in this department are FIRMAMENT no slouch: delivering his last performance with the band, frontman Maik Huber incites goosebumps with emotive, melancholic lines that sound as old as time and further add an air of mystery to We Don’t Rise, We Just Fall.

While FIRMAMENT are currently working on fresh material with new vocalist Marco Herrmann, We Don’t Rise, We Just Fall stands as a citadel of archaic melancholy – towering in its aura, yet approachable across its moss-covered landscape. Maniacs for ‘70s Scorpions, Blue Öyster Cult, Wishbone Ash, and Thin Lizzy, lay down your sword and stand before FIRMAMENT!

DVP 249 Hellcrash – Demonic Assassinatiön LP/CD/MC

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present HELLCRASH’s highly anticipated second album, Demonic Assassination, on CD, music cassette and vinyl LP formats.

Despite forming in 2013 and a couple demos and a split over those first few years, it wasn’t until HELLCRASH’s debut album, Krvcifix Invertör, where the band started to make a dark name for itself. Released on vinyl by DYING VICTIMS in 2021, Krvcifix Invertör proved HELLCRASH were a power-trio in the grand tradition of domestic legends Bulldozer, brewing a similarly sleazy (and EVIL) style of speed metal. Simple but sublime it was, and diehards definitely took notice.

Now, two years later, arrives HELLCRASH’s second album, Demonic Assassination. On first glance (and especially THAT COVER), it would seem that HELLCRASH are sticking to their guns, sowing the same seeds as earliest Slayer, Venom, and of course Bulldozer. Peer deeper and this latest expurse of sodomy shows that there’s more – much more – to HELLCRASH’s cauldron. Immediately, their attack’s more refined here: some would call it “cleaning up,” but the fine-tuning of songcraft and polishing of production have paid off in spades across Demonic Assassination. As such, there’s far more variation in that songcraft – sometimes more speed metal, other times more thrash, or even metalpunk before it was such a thing, often all in the same song – and HELLCRASH ably finesse this transition with tighter execution that, thankfully, doesn’t sacrifice an ounce of energy. In fact, if there’s on guiding aspect here, it’s energy: while HELLCRASH sometimes seem on the verge of self-combustion, so juiced-up is their rollercoaster sound, it all spills over into the listener as a celebration of filth, fury, and FUN. Could this be their The Final Separation? Perhaps…

Still sick, still sleazy, and definitely still crude & rude, HELLCRASH are firing on ALL cylinders here, and not just the old ones. So, while the aforementioned references still apply, Demonic Assassination is equally recommended for maniacs of later GBH, Carnivore, Warfare, Crumbsuckers, and contemporaries Children of Technology.

DVP 251 Animalize – Tapes from the Crypt MLP/MCD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present a reissue of the explosive debut mini-album of France’s ANIMALIZE, Tapes From the Crypt, on CD, and 12” vinyl formats.

Since 2018, France’s ANIMALIZE keep playing the kind of music that you (or your parents) may have been listening to 40 years ago. You know that “Heavy Metal” sound that appeared at a time when none of the band members was born. Well, they’re still doing it.

However, it is the band’s love of movies which arguably influence ANIMALIZE’s outlook the most and make the difference. For them, a visual identity and atmosphere – whether in their visual aesthetic, be it artwork or onstage, or especially their eventual videos – are of the utmost importance. Film also feeds their lyrics, quite often. The band states that such movies as Evil Dead, Mad Max, Pet Sematary, Masters of the Universe, and Terminator are among their most beloved.

While they would bring both to Technicolor climax with their debut album for DYING VICTIMS, Meat We Are Made Of, during the summer of 2022, ANIMALIZE nevertheless came out with all guns blazing two years prior on the preceding mini-album Tapes From the Crypt. With an eye-grabbing (and era-authentic) cover setting the stage, the originally-limited Tapes From the Crypt managed to make ANIMALIZE’s strengths plain and POWERFUL: cruising speed metal glory crossing swords with radio-ready traditional metal of a most mid-‘80s vintage. This is the sound of ANIMALIZE at their most straightforward– and, arguably, most accessible – for the proceeding debut full-length found them upping the vocal layering and especially the complexity considerably, but the gleam & glory of Tapes From the Crypt is undeniable, and undeniably fun. A snapshot of a still-boundless band finding their wings, now finally reissued: the saga of ANIMALIZE begins here!

DVP 258 High Warden – Land of Stone MC

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the debut demo tape of Germany’s HIGH WARDEN, Land of Stone, on music cassette format.

The newly founded two-piece released their first four tracks digitally in the end of 2022, but now this epic doom & heavy metal demo will get its appropriate tape release. Drawing inspiration from bands such as Magic Circle, Solstice, Orodruin and Reverend Bizarre (whom they also pay tribute to by covering “Cirith Ungol”), HIGH WARDEN frame their own signature sound, plainly named Slow Heavy Metal. It’s an endless death march on the warrior’s path towards bleakness, doom and the murderous malice of the Morgul vale, paved with iron-clad riffs of Ancient Steel.

DVP 250 EMISSARY – s/t LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the striking debut mini-album of Finland’s EMISSARY, self-titled Emissary, on cd and 12” vinyl format.

The planetary grid is riddled with unsteady and weak sonic occurrences, leaving a gap in the terrestrial soundscape. A planet-side distress signal originates from the northern hemisphere. Three trackers have joined forces in a mission to seal the aperture for good.

They are known as EMISSARY.

The tale of Finland’s EMISSARY began in October 2019, just moments before a Cirith Ungol gig in Helsinki. Dimi (Ranger) and Iiro’s idea of a band, which had already been around for years, got the fire it needed when they were chatting before the show with an old acquaintance, Joel (ex-Chevalier), and it turned out that his conceptions and ideas about music matched perfectly with the duo. Already at the first jam session, everything fell into place, and the trio focused immediately on writing their own songs. A shared vision crystallized week by week as sci-fi and fantasy fueled the ideas for the material. Even in the very beginning, the unrelenting power of old-school US power metal and the challenging structures of prog rock were the centerpieces of the music.

The epidemic slowed down the trio’s activities in spring 2020, but EMISSARY continued to actively rehearse whenever possible. In less than a year’s time after founding, the band began to record their debut five-track mini-album in cooperation with producer/engineer Anselmi Ahopalo.

Using precise state-of-the-art tech and stalwart sonic equipment from eras bygone, they have devised heavier-than-sun frequencies that would secure the breach and they would devote themselves as the Guardians of the Seal.

Indeed, EMISSARYs list of influences is vast and idiosyncratic. From the cult likes of Helstar, Sacred Blade, Camel, Virgin Steele, and Chastain to the big likes of Iron Maiden, Rush, Black Sabbath, Mercyful Fate, and Yes to films like Conan the Barbarian, Blade Runner, the first two Predator movies, the Star Trek franchise, and many, MANY more, EMISSARY’s pool of textures and sensations is nigh overwhelming, if not for the bravado in which they pursue their own sound and the resultant compositional mastery they so freely flex across Emissary. Truly, the record’s five primary songs – the aptly titled “Galactic Overture” sets the stage as an intro – burst and bristle with so many dazzling shapes, it’s almost an afterthought that the power-trio make these sonic sci-fi castles catchy. So, chops for days and also hooks just as long, EMISSARY here deliver a half-hour of infinite possibilities in what’s bound to be a classically brazen first statement – and now, under the auspices of DYING VICTIMS.

Stand by to receive auricular surge of earth-shattering heavy metal.

DVP 253 LUCIFUGE – Monoliths of Wrath LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the highly anticipated fifth album of Germany’s LUCIFUGE, Monoliths of Wrath, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Since 2016, Germany’s have been steadily perfect an addicting style of blackened speed metalpunk, all guided by the iron fist of mainman Equinox. Come 2021’s fourth full-length Infernal Power, Equinox expanded LUCIFUGE to a full lineup, and it paid off in spades: the band’s first album under the banner of DYING VICTIMS capped this signature sound with power and applomb, exuding a new professionalism that somehow sounded dirtier than ever.

And as forecasted last year by their short ‘n’ sweet split with Italian comrades BUNKER 66, LUCIFUGE continue to spit-shine that sound with Monoliths of Wrath. Immediately upon pressing “play” on this fifth full-length, it becomes clear that Equinox and crew are taking their sound in a newer but no-less-parallel direction. Unapologetically more technical than their more idiomatic “metalpunk” past, LUCIFUGE’s latest LP is not lacking for speed – in fact, it’s FASTER – but this much-more-directly thrash-oriented record takes sonic cues from classic Sodom, Kreator, Exodus, and of course Slayer. Thankfully, we’re still entrenched in the ‘80s here, but more accurately 1987 rather than 1984. Likewise, the evil, blasphemic, and anti-religious themes are retained throughout the whole record, but Monoliths of Wrath sees LUCIFUGE integrating some almost-atmospheric black metal passages in between. So, while it definitely follows from the aforementioned full-length and split, Monoliths of Wrath involves much more complex song structures overall, which are given maximum power through the production: full-bodied and “pro” but hardly soft, LUCIFUGE’s first foray into a proper recording studio (rather than the practice room) makes a huge difference in highlighting their new dynamics and tempo variation. Oh, and did we mention the BREAKDOWNS? Seriously, this is a timewarp to ‘87, in the best possible way!

So, a blast from the past, but diffently: LUCIFUGE have truly nailed their own sound and direction with Monoliths of Wrath.

DVP 259 Mälheür – Nocturnal Forces MC

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the debut demo tape of France’s MÄLHEÜR, Nocturnal Forces, on music cassette format.

The four-piece realized that in their specific area nobody was delivering the real metallic assault and because of that, they started Mälheür in 2021. Their only aim is to summon Hell and oldschool steel. Fittingly they rehearse in the stables of an old castle and with influences ranging from Living Death, Whiplash, Deathhammer, Kreator to Razor (a cover of « City of Damnation » is included), it is clear that Mälheür is dedicated to the old days of speed and thrash. SATANIK SPEED LEGIONS RAISE FROM HELL and bang your heads to « Nocturnal Forces »!!!

DVP 261 Atonement – Sadistic Invaders LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the highly anticipated debut album of Sweden’s ATONEMENT, Sadistic Invaders, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

One of the most literally explosive young bands in the nowadays metal underground, ATONEMENT are a trio of Swedes whose average age was 16 years old when they released their debut demo, Merciless Blasphemy, in 2021. Despite such youth, ATONEMENT proved that they are steeped in the ancient essence of thrashing death metal circa 1987. Bubbling forth from their cauldron of nastiness were the likes of early Destruction, Sepultura, Possessed, Death, Sweden’s Morbid, Germany’s Poison, and Chile’s Pentagram, and thus was Merciless Blasphemy aptly titled, for each of the demo’s five songs whipped forth a filth & fury quite unlike anything else around.

With expectations understandably high, ATONEMENT took their time crafting the penultimate debut album, and two years later it arrives in the form of Sadistic Invaders. Yet another aptly titled recording, Sadistic Invaders carries forward that filth & fury of its short-length predecessor and amazingly ups the nastiness to hellish levels. Again, even with the band not yet in their 20s, ATONEMENT are dead-ringers for juiced-up and jackhammering deathrash of a most mid-‘80s vintage, and the ten songs they devilishly dole out across the 37-minute album are somehow more crazed and compact than on said demo. And whereas that demo’s ultra-rawness emitted an air of the otherworldly, here on Sadistic Invaders do the trio impart a thicker and fuller-bodied aspect, retaining a respectable rawness but not at the expense of their superlative chops; while it’s always full speed ahead for ATONEMENT, they manage to twist the ceremonial knife in different and sometimes-impossible ways, elevating the album above the masses still searching for Endless Pain. Dizzying yet addicting, Sadistic Invaders hits with the power and precision of a nuclear strike.

And yet, it’s still early days for ATONEMENT, so who knows how far they’ll venture into the lungs of Hell? Sadistic Invaders provides the first full-length clues, and is highly recommended for maniacs of Deathhammer, Division Speed, and Norway’s late/great Condor.

– Regular edition on black vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card and download code.
– Special edition on red vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card, download code and patch.
– CD edition with sticker and obi.

DVP-262-Spectre-Lonesome-Gambler-1024x1024.jpg

DVP 262 Spectre – Lonesome Gambler MLP/CD/MC

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present a brand-new EP from Australia’s SPECTRE, Lonesome Gambler, on CD, 12” vinyl, and cassette tape formats. The CD and tape versions will include five bonus tracks from the band’s preceding singles and splits.

SPECTRE is the sterling heavy metal vison of Will Spectre. Formed in 2017, the band made its recorded debut that summer with the two-song Silver Invaders / Stand Alone single on the cult Heavy Chains label, which DYING VICTIMS released on 7” vinyl later that year. SPECTRE’s primary influences are heavy metal and hard rock of the late ’70s and early ‘80s, and they continued that streak with the Hard Attacks digital single in 2018. Four years would pass before the next SPECTRE recording, the two-song Drifter. On that record, Will Spectre was joined by his heavy friends Jake Glas (Outcast/Teuton) on vocals and David Harrington-George (The Wizar’d/Tarot) on bass. Expanding their purist palette, here did SPECTRE sprinkle spices from Will Spectre’s other musical conjurings – namely, The Wizar’d, Tarot, Dracula, and Crypt Vapor.

Despite its brief length, Drifter was undoubtedly a pivotal recording for SPECTRE, and now the duo of Will Spectre and David Harrington-George return with arguably their best and bravest record yet, Lonesome Gambler. With the average length around five minutes per track, the four songs comprising Lonesome Gambler display an “epic compactness” which wholly suits the moodier material here. Taking the bathos and pathos of its predecessor further, SPECTRE conjure a mystical realm where private-press NWOBHM, dark AOR, and even early deathrock reside: the rocking is measured but not too hard, the melodies are melancholic but not totally depressing, and back on the mic, Spectre’s vocals are somehow anthemic and sagely simultaneously. The vintage synths color these road/life/space-weary ruminations with tastefully dramatic effect, putting SPECTRE squarely on that precipice between 1979 and 1980, equally excited about and fearful of the future. It’s a subtle refinement altogether, but one that proves there’s plenty of magick still to be mined.

Bringing the past into the present, the CD and tape versions of Lonesome Gambler will include five bonus tracks – all from the band’s aforementioned short-lengths, thereby making this a currently complete discography of SPECTRE. Roll the dice and turn the wheel!
