Interview CHILDREN OF BODOM (Alexander) 1998 - We are considered Black Metal in Finland

Kids on the road for the first time. Causing quite a stir with their debut, Children Of Bodom scored an opening slot to tour with Benediction in 1998. We caught up with Alexander to squeeze some information on the band out of him. So give it a listen in case you are interested in the very early days of a band that subsequently went on to headling some of the biggest stages the metal scence had to offer.

Interview DRUDENSANG (German) (Krámpn) 2023 - Entmenschlichung und Entrückung

Wer die gestrige Sendung verpasst hat oder noch die ausführlichere Version unseres Drudensang Interviews nachhören will, hat derzeit hier die Möglichkeit dazu.

Schon längere Zeit im deutschen Black Metal Untergrund unterwegs, haben Drudensang kürzlich mit "Tuiflsrijtt" ein Machtwort gesprochen. Über Folter Records verlegt, dreht sich dieses bis ins kleinste durchdachte Werk sicherlich schon auf vielen Plattentellern. Um nicht in den bayrischen Wald fahren zu müssen, passten wir Frontmann Krámpn auf der aktuellen Headliner Tour ab und tauchten in die Tiefen des Bandkosmos ein, sowohl musikalisch als auch inhaltlich. Heraus kam ein hochinteressantes und ehrliches Gespräch.

Interview DARK FUNERAL (Lord Ahriman) 2023 - Remembering Blackmoon & the early days

Supporting Cannibal Corpse, Dark Funeral just finished a highly successful European tour. Being fairly selective when it comes to interviews these days, we were glad to be given the chance for an in-depth conversation with Lord Ahriman. Besides some information on the very early days, he also provided insight into his relationship with Blackmoon, who passed away 10 years ago.

Interview TOTAL HATE (German) (Adrastos, Serrator, Czernobog) 2023 - Wir halten die Flamme am Leben!

Mit beeindruckenden Live Auftritten haben Total Hate vor Kurzem gezeigt, wo der 90er Jahre Black Metal Hammer heute schwingt. Es hat ein wenig gedauert, bis wir nach ihrem Siegesritt beim Braincrusher in Hell wieder geradaus gucken konnten, haben dann aber drei der Jungs für ein Gespräch in unser Auto locken können. Kindersicherung rein und keiner konnte in den kommenden 30 Minuten vor unseren Fragen flüchten. Wer zumindest peripheres Interesse am Genre hat, mag hier mal das Hörgerät einschalten.

Interview AFSKY (Ole Luk) 2023 - Longing for life!

We first met Ole a couple of years ago when he toured for the AFSKY debut full length album (look for the interview elsewhere in our site). Causing quite a stir with the follow up and now just having the third album available, it was time to hook up with him again to hear about all that matters. With took this opportunity right before AFSKY were to enter the stage at the phenomenal Braincrusher in Hell Festival to spend a couple of very insightful minutes.

Interview SERPENTS OATH (Tes Re Oth) (German) 2023 - Energie, Blut & Feuer

Hoppla, da wurden uns aber gewaltig die Buchsen runtergezogen, als die Belgier von Serpents Oath das Braincrusher in Hell im Frühjahr zertrümmerten. Mit phänomenaler akustischer Vehemenz und üppigem Bühnenaufbau gab es für Ohren als auch Augen die Vollbedienung. Da diese Band für uns noch zu den Unbekannten gehörte, musste dies im Anschluss natürlich sofort geändert werden. Auf gehts in ein Intermezzo in der Umkleide, das in die (Un)Tiefen der Bandphilosophie eintauchte.

Interview MEGATON SWORD (German) (Uzzy, Seth) 2023 - Meterlange Klingen!

Was haben wir uns über die Scheiben von MEGATON SWORD bisher gefreut! War klar, dass da früher oder später ein Gespräch geführt werden musste. Nachdem die Jungs meterlange Stahlschwerter montiert hatten und die Köpfe in Villingen-Schwenningen rollten, war beim Säubern der Klingen noch die Zeit gegeben, die wichtigsten Intimitäten in Erfahrung zu bringen.

Interview PURTENANCE (Harri, Juha & Aabeg) 2023 - Old Finnish death metal cult

One of the most obscure cult death metal releases from Finland must have been the early output of Purtenance. Even after a 20 year beauty sleep, international performances are still a rare thing to witness. Luckily, we were blessed with Vollgas Unterhaltung grabbing one of the available tour slots to invite them into the Zille in Göppingen. A more than welcome opportunity for us to dig into the early days of the band and the Finnish extreme metal underground. Also, there is a new album coming out fairly soon on XTREEM MUSIC, so make sure to check it out.

Interview WODE (Mike & Tim) 2023 - Growing in all directions

As part of a small run of gigs, WODE stopped over at the Zille in Göppingen, thanks to Vollgas Unterhaltung. With their latest album "Burn in many mirrors" (released through 20 Buck Spin) being an absolute masterpiece, lord Satan commanded us to have a chat with these blokes. We managed to squeeze this in before they had to get ready for rocking the place. So listen to this to get all key info required for this band that does no longer seem to know any limits.

Interview OPETH (Johann & Peter) 1996 - First tour, chance encounter

Opeth played a small run of shows supporting Cradle of Filth in 1996, with this being their first small tour and their support slot not being announced at all beforehand. So we stumbled over them by chance before things were about to kick off in the Metropool in Hengelo. As you can imagine, we had no questions prepared in advance and, while knowing the debut and Morningrise (which had just been released), we kept this to a couple of soundbites that allowed us to promote the band on the radio.

Interview SAOR (Andy) 2023 - I hated playing in bands!​

Sometimes one has to be persistent, as were we at Baden in Blut Metal Open Air. It took us four attempts throughout the day to finally chase down (with the help of Saor´s new multi-instrumentalist Ella) and sit down Andy for an interview. By then it was pitch black or at least too dark to use the detailed info sheet we prepared ahead of the conversation. Anyway, it nevertheless turned out to be a very insightful chat for everyone interested in Saor. So give it a listen. The edited version with a couple of songs soon can be heard on the radio.

Interview ARCH ENEMY (Michael Amott) 1997 - First gigs, no deal (in Europe).​

After one of the gigs that belong to the first ones played in Europe, we took the time for an in-depth chat with Michael Amott. The Arch Enemy debut had been released the year before, as was the Armageddon album (at least in Japan), yet the band was without a record contract in Europe. From today´s perspective looking back at this, the interview provides some very unique insight regarding future plans, the relevance of death metal in comparison to black metal, songwriting, members etc. Please note some Dutch bloke interview-bombed us in between (# we just learned this was the local promoter). MEMBARIS/AVOWAL 2020

Manchmal kommen die Überraschungen aus dem Nichts. Membaris gibt es nun schon seit ca. 20 Jahren und kommen uns erst jetzt zu Ohren. Die aktuelle Scheibe "Misanthrosophie" hat uns dermassen mit ihren dichten, vertrackten, ehabenen und auch erschlagenden Kompositionen aus den Latschen gehauen, dass wir die Chance auf ein Gespräch mit Gitarrist Nils nicht ausschlagen konnten. Selbiger macht seit neuestem auch mit seiner dissonant-schwindelerregenden Formation AVOWAL von sich reden. Haben wir also gleich mit im Gespräch berücksichtigt.

Membaris laufen irgendwie komplett unter dem Radar. Ist mir bei der Qualität und Leidenschaft der Musik irgendwie ein Rätsel...

Interview ANATHEMA (Vinnie) 2001 - A fine day to ask it!​

Around the time "A fine day to exit" was released, Anathema played a number of small shows, including one in Hengelo. It was apparent they struggled with their link to the metal scene and also their name at the time. Take note, we took the chance also to dive a bit into history, including the early days and how to deal with rip-off tour promoters. Quite an enjoyable listen to what could be restored from the original, slightly damaged audio file.

Interview ACID BLADE (German) (Klemens & Luka) 2023 - Sternstunde der deutschen NWOTHM​

Wenn Glanztaten vom Himmel fallen, stehen wir gern als Fänger bereit. So beispielsweise beim Geniestreich "Shooting star" der Dresdener ACID BLADE. Nachdem das Publikum in der gut gefüllten Zille schrubbelig-eng aneinander stand, um die Jungs abzufeiern, namen sich Klemens und Luka dankenswerterweise die Zeit, mit uns zu plauschen. Auch wenn sich das Line Up Karrussel im neuen Jahr ein wenig drehen wird, hören wir bestimmt noch mehr von diesen Gesellen.
