Unterraschend: regelt wieder. Bisschen straighter als das letzte Album evtl.
 
Ja, verdammt! Hit auf Hit. Eher so der "Imperial" Nachfolger nach dem düsteren "TA13OO", aber textlich scheinen da auch wieder (wie immer) sehr düstere Momente durch. Und ich wusste nie dass ich Rick Ross auf so einem Beat hören will.
 
Ja zu allem. Unfassbar geiles Ding, läuft schon den ganzen Tag.
 
Ist The Priest aus Schweden schon bekannt? Melancholisch-düstere, poppige Mischung aus diversen elektronischen Spielarten, die trotz ihrer Vielseitigkeit in sich schlüssig wirkt und gut reingeht. Sieht auch ganz cool aus, hat entgegen der Optik mit Industrial übrigens wenig zu tun:

Singer and guitarist Fred Cole was playing music since the early 1960’s – beginning his career as “Deep Soul Cole – the white Stevie Wonder”, then joining the psychedelic garage rock band the Lollipop Shoppe / The Weeds. In the 70’s and early 80’s Fred and Toody Cole played in various punk, country and hard rock bands. In the late 1980’s, they formed Dead Moon with Andrew Loomis. This band went on to become mythic and legendary. They lived by a DIY code built around superstitions and avoidance of conventional music industry pitfalls. Their story is completely unique amongst the pantheon on rock bands – a group who never sold out, never gave in and built a legacy of art and community piece by piece in a sustainable way almost unheard of. The book is a tribute to their unique aesthetic, unbelievable twisted path of a story, and roll as pioneers of the Portland music scene. The book tells the entire Dead Moon saga in the words of the band itself. Just the voices of Fred, Toody and Andrew. It includes a complete illustrated discography of everything Fred, Toody and Andrew have released, song lyrics, and TONS of band photos, flyers, and weird ephemeral stuff. endlich halt ich das 4 Kilo(!)-Mörderding in meinen gierigen Griffeln!! Jau, nen Hunni ist schon kein Pappenstiel, aber das Ding ist so wunderschön! Die beiden in die Buchinnencoverseiten in Hüllen eingeklebten LP's bieten ein schönes Bes-Of dieser one-in-a-million-Ausnahme-Band. Der Hammer ist aber das unglaublich geile Buch, das so superdick ist, dass man damit locker nen Mord verüben kann! Tja, mit der Venom-Box und so: mal gucken ob doch nur kleiner Urlaub übrig bleibt:D
 
Die neue Flying Lotus sollte man sich mal anhören, wenn man sich für - äh - nahezu alle Formen von Musik interessiert und sich gern überfordern lässt. Stressig ist vielleicht nicht das richtige Wort für „Flamagra“, konzentriert hören muss man aber schon.

Unbedingt zu empfehlen ist der Soundtrack von PJ Harvey zur Bühnenadaption von "All About Eve", nicht nur, weil Gillian Anderson ein Lied singt. Das Ding ist fantastisch!

Bin zufällig Profi in Sachen nicht verstehen, aber das verstehe ich nicht. :D
Man hört diese Musik und wird bewegt, so kompliziert ist das nicht, es ist nicht Tool.

Ende Juli kommt eine neue Swain (ex This Routine Is Hell). Mit dem Namenswechsel sind die Jungs ja deutlich variabler und unberechenbarer geworden, "The Long Dark Blue" ist eines meiner liebsten Alben der letzten Jahre. Irgendwo zwischen 90ies Alternative Rock, bisschen Grunge hier, viel Indie da und immer noch voller Punk/Hardcore Energie. Und auch der neue Song "Negative Space" atmet das alles wieder. Hab ich lieb.

One of the best things about math rock is that you don’t have to understand algebra to enjoy it: You can leave all the additions, subtractions, and equations to the musicians, and just sit back and enjoy the solutions. The New York-based trio Skryptor might not even consider themselves math rock—their bio accurately references metal pioneers Black Sabbath and free jazz destroyer Sonny Sharrock—but their debut album Luminous Volumes recalls the dizzying heights of that genre’s peaks nonetheless, sifting scaling guitars and calculator rhythms into roller coaster tunes.

Giving complex music a gut-level impact is easier if you’ve honed your craft into a second nature, and the three members in Skryptor have a worthy pedigree. Bassist David McClelland and guitarist Tim Garrigan once purveyed heavy jams for Midwest hard-workers Dazzling Killmen and Craw; when he’s not writing about brain-busting music himself, drummer Hank Shteamer plays for prog-metal trio Stats. The trio’s collective experience is clear in their music’s precision, but it also helps them avoid the deadening repetition that a relentless attack can often fall into.

To that end, Luminous Volumes doesn’t contain songs so much as it does multitudes. On the mini-marathon “Lotus and Mace,” Skryptor scale ascending, stair-like riffs to beatific interludes, stopping to admire the view as they go. They indulge their Sabbath side on the grinding “Red Mountain,” spiking sludge with caffeinated accelerations. They can even get mellow, as in lengthy closer “Summer Blossoms,” whose dreamy tone is grounded by slashing chords and an earth-bound beat. That track helps ease Luminous Volumes down to a soft landing, but it also suggests great future flights are in store from these three hyperactive minds.
