“ REMAINS is a collection of live recordings.
The first disc, “Ecstasy with the Nonexistents”, is a soundboard recording of a full live set from 2018. Assembled with great care, this set list was only performed in concert once. The concept was to reinvent the songs, re-arranging pieces from “Transient” and “Mouvement” into a continuous three-part suite. The first section is slow, more self-centered than introverted, and obsessive. The second section is atmospheric, dominated by improvisations with bells, flutes, shamanic drumming, and mantra-like vocal patterns. The final section is carnal, wild and intuitive, completing the journey from an aggressive, selfish state to one of abandonment and sharing.
The second disc, “IIIII”, is a compilation of studio outtakes, alternate versions, and live recordings spanning 2012 to 2016. As always, the material is linked conceptually and through the mix in order to create a single long piece that evolves as it goes and echoes itself. The band felt it was important to share these pieces before it all was buried under ashes and dust. ”

Konnte mir Serpents von La Strizza günstig second hand schießen und mir gefällt es sehr gut. Sie nennen es ja irgendwie Post Jazz. Passt ganz gut, da mal irgendwo zwischen Dark Jazz, Jazzfusion (inkl. dem elekrtonischen Anteil) und latent metallischem Post/Prog Rock agiert - und letzteres auch mal mit heavy Riffs. Das Ganze klingt dann in etwas wie Chaos Echoes um den (Death) Metal bereinigt und somit zwar noch nicht weltbewegend, aber als Ergänzung und auch so recht spannend. Muss live nochmal eine Ecke krasser sein; da sind dann noch Tastenmenschen, Bläser und ggfls. ein weiterer Percussionist am Start. Ich werde an der Band dranbleiben.

So schaut das Ding aus und ist auch jeden Cent wert, finde ich! Man merkt schon, dass die Brüder nicht nur musikalisch stark vom Prog der 70er und Jazz (Fusion) beeinflusst sind: Auf beiden CDs wird versucht - einmal als Konzert-Dokumentation umgesetzt, einmal aus Live-Stücken und Improvs thematisch kreiert - aus den vorhandenen Stücken eine Suite zu erschaffen. Und das ist gelungen. Der Sound ist fantastisch, die Performance sowieso. Zwar nicht günstig, aber dennoch ein wertiger Abschied dieser wohl mit am spannendsten agierenden Death Metal-Band dieses Jahrtausends. Ich werde sie vermissen. Live sowieso. Die Show im Swimming Pool war absolut überragend!
