The Robinson family’s adventures will continue, as Netflix has renewed its reboot of
Lost in Space for a second season.
The reimagining of the 1960 Irwin Allen classic debuted on the streaming service in April to largely positive reviews and an impressive audience, with
Nielsen estimating 6.3 million viewers in its first three days. That’s better than either
Marvel’s The Defenders or
Black Mirror.
Set in a near future where Earth is becoming uninhabitable,
Lost in Space follows the Robinson family, who are selected as part of a program to colonize a distant planet with humanity’s best and brightest. However, when tragedy strikes the colony ship, the Robinsons and other families are left stranded on an increasingly inhospitable planet, where they must fight for survival, find a means of escape, and avoid the schemes of the enigmatic Dr. Smith (Parker Posey).
Series co-creator Matt Sazama revealed last month that he and collaborator Burk Sharpless
had already begun planning a second season, and were merely waiting for a green light from Netflix.
Steaming now on Netflix, the 10-episode first season of
Lost in Space stars Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Maxwell Jenkins, Taylor Russell, Mina Sundwall, Ignacio Serricchio and Parker Posey.
