Ich habe einmal eine
unvollständige Chronologie von Bands und deren Alben recherchiert, die meiner Meinung nach für den Grunge wichtig waren bzw. als Grunge bezeichnet werden. Als Grundlage dienten vor allem Interviews mit Vertretern der Grunge-Bands, Wikipedia (engl.) und andere Websites (siehe Links unten). Auch das, was ihr alle bisher geschrieben habt, ist in die Liste eingeflossen.
Niemand kann genau sagen, wo und wann es angefangen hat und auch das Ende ist schwer zu definieren. Man kann es sowieso nicht perfekt eingrenzen, weil der Grunge aus Marketinggründen vom Label Sub Pop eingeführt wurde und viele Bands der Rockszene in Seattle genreübergreifend agierten. Lustigerweise bin ich, je mehr ich über Grunge recherchiert habe, immer mehr zu der Überzeugung gekommen, dass Grunge als Genrebezeichnung für eine Musikrichtung vielleicht gar nicht existiert, weil es nur ein Verkaufslabel für dreckige Rock- und Punkbands mit düsteren Texten war. Das ist ungefähr so, als würde man versuchen, Bands dem Musikgenre "Parental Advisory/Explicit Lyrics" zuzuordnen, was ebenfalls zum Scheitern verurteilt ist.
