Dissection-Huld-Thread

Falls hier jemand schon immer einen schönen Dissection Backpatch haben wollte:

Official Dissection 'Storm Of The Light's Bane' backpatches are coming soon to Pull The Plug Patches!

PREORDER will be through our website and will open at exactly 8:00am, Sydney, Australia time on Thursday, July 2nd, 2020.

The preorder will remain open for 1 month, or until it sells out, whichever comes first. We expect these will move quickly, so set your alarms! Anticipated ship date is early September.

Purple border and Black border options will be available. Dimensions are to be determined, but basically your standard backpatch size. The cost of the backpatch will be US$25.00, plus shipping. Note that you will be paying for both the backpatch AND shipping fees upfront in the preorder. Shipping is via tracked parcel post only. The shipping cost will be location specific, and unfortunately we have no control over the amounts set by Australia Post.

We are currently unable to ship to the following countries: Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, India, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Africa. There may be additional countries that we cannot currently ship to, so it is up to you to check the latest information for your country. If you live in one of the above listed countries you may still order, but your backpatch will not be shipped until shipping resumes to your country. Hopefully by September these countries will open back up, but there is no way for us to predict when shipping will actually resume to these countries.

Thanks to Johan Norman and Black Horizon Graphics!

We are more than a little upset to say that our planned Dissection "Storm of the Light's Bane" backpatch is cancelled indefinitely. There is a small chance we could still do this down the line, but there are a lot of steps that would need to happen before that could occur. We have always been transparent about how things roll with Pull The Plug Patches, and I said we would make a statement, so here is the deal.

We reached out to Johan Norman about making these patches. He was very enthusiastic about the idea. I've worked with some great people since starting this little operation, but let me emphasize with zero hyperbole whatsoever that Johan is one of the nicest guys I have encountered. A total class act and gentleman in every conceivable way. Working closely with Johan we went through several design revisions to come up with the best product possible. "Storm of the Light's Bane" is a legendary milestone in Metal history and it is our designer's all time favorite album. I think the passion that was put into this project by all parties was evident in the final design. This was set to be the backpatch to end all backpatches. We were all as excited about sharing this with you, as you were about the prospect of getting one for yourself.

It is important to note that Johan remains friends with the other two living members of the "Storm of the Light's Bane" lineup, Peter Palmdahl and Ole Öhman. To our knowledge neither had any objection to us making these very limited edition backpatches precisely because the three former band members are all on good terms with each other. Instead, what happened was two days before the preorder was set to open I posted a new reminder. In that reminder I indicated that the patches were approved by Johan Norman. I then went to bed and the next morning I woke up to a strange message from a newly created Instagram account with no posts, no followers, and not following anyone. The person claimed to be Set Teitan and he had less than kind words to say about Johan. I won't repeat what he said here because none of his accusations are true. I say this not only because I confirmed with Johan, but also because the public record contradicts what this individual claimed.

In any event, the person claiming to be Set Teitan threatened that if we proceeded with the backpatch, he would contact Razamataz to take legal action against us, suggesting that they hold the exclusive right to produce official Dissection merchandise. I did not respond to this message for a number of reasons that have to do with the content of the message, the character of the individual who the messenger claimed to be, and the questionable authenticity of a newly created account. Instead I went to Johan, and we both agreed that it was best to contact Razamataz directly. So I did just that. They were very kind in responding, recognizing this was not a conflict between our two companies, but rather an issue of who holds the copyright. Razamataz contacted the copyright holder for clarification and we were asked not to proceed.

As it turns out, apparently someone named "Victor Draconi" owns the copyright to the Dissection brand and name, and he has engaged Razamataz in an exclusive worldwide contract to produce Dissection merchandise. Who is this individual? If you are a Dissection fan you may already know, but if not, you can Google it. He has apparently gone by other aliases, including "Vlad". While having no former membership in the band, and to our knowledge no role in the creation of the music, a search in the Swedish Trademark database suggests that he registered the copyright in November 2005, ten months before Jon's death. Whether or not that registration was with or without Jon's knowledge or consent, we are not here to speculate. However, it does raise a number of questions. Former members of the band, including Johan, and to the best of our knowledge Peter and Ole, who all played on "Storm of the Light's Bane" have been cut out of any royalties from Dissection merchandise sales, and for at least 15 years have received absolutely nothing. It is not our place to determine the authenticity of a copyright claim, but what we do know is that at least some and perhaps all of these former members never relinquished their claim to the album, the music, the artwork, or even to the band's name. Copyright claims can of course be challenged. I don't think anyone would argue that it would be unreasonable for the former members of the band to look into this, but ultimately it is up to them to determine whether it is worth pursuing or not. It would obviously require time, effort, patience, and paperwork.

In the end, we make no allusions as to who is right and who is wrong in the eyes of the law, but this situation is an excellent reminder of the notion that what is legal is not necessarily always ethical, and what is ethical is not necessarily always legal. For our part, we always try to take the ethical approach by working directly with band members, but when and where controversies and conflicts of interest arise, it is also not our place to get in the middle of things. Accordingly, the backpatch is cancelled.

Thank you again for your passion and support. It never ceases to amaze me that 30 years on there are still people in the world who care about this art form as much as we do!

Vlad wird die Rechte sicherlich von Jon bekommen haben. Jon schien nicht der Typ zu sein, der sich Rechte an seiner Musik so klauen lässt. Auszug aus einem Interview mit dem ehemaligen No Fashion Betreiber:

... DISSECTION too, in the end. After Jon was released from prison he paid them a visit in person, and asked for the rights back.

Asked?

– In a manner of speaking. When he was out again I got a call out of the blue, we hadn’t spoken in ten years by then. He asked if I still had the contract him and I signed, which I didn’t; I’d thrown all that away ages ago. ‘I’m taking back what belongs to me’, he said, ‘my albums have sold by the thousands yet I’ve never seen any money whatsoever.’

The first two DISSECTION albums are estimated to have sold more than 100 000 copies each. A while later, Nödtveidt told him he’d dropped by the House of Kicks office in person and retrieved what was justifiably his; the rights to “The Somberlain”.

– I asked him how things were going with Nuclear Blast, who released the second album (“Storm of the Light’s Bane”) – he said he was going to fix that too. Sure enough, a few months later both of them were re-released on their own label Black Horizon
